Thankfulness

Thankfulness – the simple response of our heart to life in all its fullness – goes beyond boundaries of creed, age, vocation, gender, and nation.

Traditionally, thankfulness is a word that is used a lot this week in the USA and Canada. This year, though, I find many people questioning if they can find anything to be thankful for.

It might help us to remember that the first time there was a celebration of Thanksgiving in our country it was by a handful of settlers that had a very hard year. Most of them had lost people they loved, and were far away from anybody else they were once close to. The future was uncertain. The present was cold and provisions were not plentiful.

Yet, they found many reasons to be thankful. I think we really need to rethink how many blessings we have had this hard year and to find words of gratitude and thankfulness.

Today I'm sharing with you the words of Melody Beattie about gratitude. Enjoy!

Gratitude

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance,
chaos to order, confusion to clarity.

It can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home,
a stranger into a friend.

Gratitude makes sense of our past,
brings peace for today, and
creates a vision for tomorrow.

~Melody Beattie

You might not be able to gather in big family groups. But you can still sprinkle the colors of thanksgiving in people's lives by sharing generously words of gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
